The Sapphire Ring Ch1

~-~-~ this is my main story that i am working. this is the first chapter of that story which i seriously hope to get published. i may or may not continue adding chapters as i re-write them. i will at least for a while. tell me what you think and thank you for reading.

p.s. i apologize for any spelling errors, gramatical errors or lack of capitalization. my main issue is my captalization.~-~-~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Sapphire Ring
Ch 1
    It was Ice’s first gathering, when all the adult and teenage residents of the caverns in the Oodune mountains came together to decide whether they stayed in hiding as they had for the last ten thousand years. Or whether they made themselves known to the humans who lived just outside of the mountains shadow.  Ice himself was excited. Ten years ago he had been too young to attend the gathering. Since the gathering only happened once every ten years he wouldn’t see one again for a long time. He wanted to keep this experience fresh in his mind.
    As he looked around he noticed that no one else was excited, not the adults nor were the other teenagers who’s first gathering it was. As his eyes scanned the crowd of half demons and half beasts he noticed that many of them were looking at him. Ice sighed and looked at the ground under his feet. A small puddle of water showed his reflection back to him.
    His white hair was bright against the darkness in the water, and his icey blue eyes shone with a sadness that few knew. He smiled slightly and saw that his fangs had grown slightly again. It wouldn’t be long until everyone could see them. Ice was a vampire, not a pure blooded one as some were, but half vampire. His father had married a Frost nymph when he was young and Ice was their only child.  Ice could remember how his parents looked only vaguely. They had died when he was seven years old. Just after the last gathering.
    A sound made him look up. The council had arrived to a decision and would be returning soon. Ice took one more quick glance around. His eyes rested on a girl at the front of the room. She looked human to his eyes which startled him. She must have sensed his gaze, when she turned around he was caught in her deep sapphire coloured eyes. She smiled at him, fangs gleaming in the dim light. Was she a vampire? Ice thought, but his thoughts were cut short when the girl turned around and looked towards the dais on which the council members now stood.
    “Citizens of the mountains!” a booming voice said Ice looked up at the head of the council, a Dwarf by the name of Draeden. “we have come to our decision, we will once again stay within the limits of these mountains, it is still too dangerous for us to venture outside our borders! Goodbye and may Shadow protect you all.”
    Draeden was turning around when a strong female voice rang through the silent crowd “So, you think that Shadow would want us to keep hiding?”
    Ice was shocked. It was the girl who had caught him staring at her. Was she mad? She could get herself killed, or worse, roasted by dragon fire. And there she was. Glaring down the most powerful man that resided in the Oodune mountains with no regard to her won safety.
    “what do you mean child” Draedens tone was chilly and Ice saw some people shiver.
    People backed away from the girl muttering to themselves, Ice caught whips of people calling the girl crazy and mentally ill. While they backed away with their tails between their legs Ice began to walk forwards. No one took notice to him since all eyes were on the girl.
    “I mean to say that Shadow made us swear before he vanished that we would carry on his wish and remind the humans that we exist, that we are not legends to be forgotten and taken lightly. Yet every ten years this council decides to hide, to keep our people here, confined in a cage of your design!”
    Ice was now beside the girl. His eyes faced Draeden and he spoke. “she is right you know.” he turned to look at everyone in the cavern. “all we have done is hide. Why have we not fulfilled Shadows wishes? In ten years the humans would have expanded their borders into ours. It would be harder and harder for some of us to hide. Not everyone appears human.” his eyes glanced over to the centaurs and the dragon sleeping in the back, “when they come to mine the mountains where would we go? Would we run further away? Keep hiding?”
    Ice glared at Draeden, the cold stare did not seem to faze the dwarf though. Draeden laughed, throwing his head back in laughter a few joined him in hushed, forced giggles. When he looked back down his eyes locked with Ices, there was hate in those eyes, and something that Ice could not identify. “those humans wont come near this mountain, they don’t even believe that it is here. That is the extent of the protections we have placed here to protect everyone here. The magic wont break as long as this council agrees to let us stay in this mountain. When we cross the border the magic will disappear and we will all be slaughtered by those merciless humans.”
    “no we wont.” the girl said quietly. “you know as well as any magic user that those protections were used up when you murdered Ice’s parents. His father as a descendant of Shadow was the key to those spells.”
    Ice stared at the girl, did she know who he was? And did she say that he was a descendant of shadow himself? He tore his mind away from the matter and glared at Draeden, anger taking control of him. “YOU were the one who had my parents burned by dragon fire!” he spat out. “he was a council member and all he wanted was for everyone to be able to choose whether to hide or not! You had him killed for the simple thing of equality! You doomed us all!”
    Ice saw the fear in Draedens eyes. Ice could see red all around him, a rage and bloodlust was taking control of him, but he could not stop it. “you thought that no one ehre could read! So you kept the council notes where anyone could look at them , you didn’t realize that I could read! You-”
    Ice saw his vision fall as a searing pain racked his brain. Moments later he was in a sweet darkness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
